Lifting Inspection

 

Lifting Inspection is the systematic examination of lifting equipment and lifting accessories to verify that they are safe, serviceable, and compliant with applicable standards before and during use.

Equipment commonly inspected


Cranes (mobile, tower, overhead)
Hoists
Wire rope slings
Chain slings
Synthetic web slings
Shackles
Hooks
Eyebolts
Lifting beams and spreader beams

Inspection checklist

Visual inspection for cracks, corrosion, wear, deformation, or broken parts.
Verify identification tags and the Working Load Limit (WLL).
Check safety devices (e.g., hook safety latches).
Inspect wire ropes for broken wires, kinks, birdcaging, or crushing.
Inspect chains for elongation, wear, twists, or damaged links.
Inspect synthetic slings for cuts, burns, abrasion, or chemical damage.
Ensure all certifications and inspection records are current.

Types of inspection

Pre-use inspection: Performed by the operator before each use.
Frequent inspection: Conducted at regular intervals based on usage.
Periodic/Thorough inspection: Performed by a competent inspector with documented records, and may include non-destructive testing (NDT) where required.
